There’s a simple principle that should guide local government: if a decision impacts your home, your safety, or your finances, you deserve a voice.
In Washoe County, that isn’t always the case.
Thousands of residents live within the City of Reno-Sparks sphere of influence. While they are affected by development decisions, infrastructure planning, and taxation, they often lack meaningful voting power on the issues shaping their neighborhoods.
That isn’t fair — and it isn’t right.
What “Sphere of Influence” Really Means
Living inside the City of Reno-Sparks sphere of influence means decisions made at the city or county level can directly affect your property, your roads, drainage systems, and community development. Yet many residents impacted by these decisions don’t have a seat at the table when those votes are cast.
Residents shouldn’t be taxed without representation.
Residents shouldn’t be impacted without input.
Why This Matters
When communities are excluded from decision-making, trust erodes. And when trust erodes, accountability disappears.
I’ve seen firsthand how residents are often left out of conversations that directly affect their lives — especially in flood-impacted and growing neighborhoods. That’s not how responsive government should work.
What I’ll Fight For
As Commissioner, I will advocate for reforms that:
- Expand voting access for impacted communities
- Ensure residents have a voice in development and infrastructure decisions
- Protect families from taxation without representation
Local government should serve the people — not sidestep them.
If you’re impacted, you deserve a vote. And I’ll fight to make sure your voice is heard.
